# Phona

> Phona is a conversational AI chat widget platform powered by Google Gemini. It enables businesses to add voice and text AI assistants to any website, standalone page, or QR code. The widget passively collects detailed website analytics — page views, traffic sources, visitor geography, device data, time on page, and widget interaction events — all queryable via a REST API.

## Product overview

Phona assistants come in four types:

- **Website Widget** — An embeddable chat widget (voice + text) for any website. Installed via a single `<script>` tag. Works on WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, and plain HTML sites.
- **Standalone Pages** — Shareable hosted chat pages (e.g. for Airbnb hosts, hospitality, museums) accessible via link or QR code.
- **QR Explainer** — Scan-to-chat experiences for physical locations, products, exhibits.
- **OpenClaw** — Voice AI assistant for OpenClaw gateway/backend systems with three-layer architecture (Gemini Voice → TaskMediator → OpenClaw execution).

## Analytics & tracking

Every Phona widget also acts as a passive analytics engine. Once the embed script is installed, it records:

- Page URL, page title, timestamp (UTC)
- Time on page in seconds (sent via exit beacon when visitor leaves)
- Referrer URL and traffic source classification (Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, email, direct, referral)
- UTM parameters (`utm_source`, `utm_medium`, `utm_campaign`, `utm_content`, `utm_term`) captured from the page URL if present
- Visitor IP hashed with SHA-256 (first 16 chars stored, GDPR-compliant); country code (ISO 3166-1 from CDN headers only — no region or city)
- Device type (mobile / tablet / desktop), browser name, OS, screen width, screen height, browser language
- Widget interactions: `widget_open`, `widget_close` (with duration in seconds), `conversation_start`, `conversation_end`, `inquiry_submit`

## REST API

The Phona Analytics REST API lets third-party tools (SEO platforms, dashboards, CRMs) query all collected data programmatically.

**Base URL:** `https://app.phona.app/api/v1`

**Authentication:** `Authorization: Bearer <api_key>` — API keys generated in Phona dashboard under Settings → API Access. Available on all plans. Keys are in the format `phona_live_` + 32 hex chars. Only the SHA-256 hash is stored; the full key is returned once on creation.

**Key endpoints:**

- `GET /assistants` — list all assistants with IDs, names, type, website_url
- `GET /analytics/pageviews` — daily/hourly page view counts with unique visitor totals; params: `assistant_id`, `start_date`, `end_date`, `granularity` (day|hour), `page_url`
- `GET /analytics/sessions` — visitor sessions grouped by visitor_id + calendar day; includes entry/exit page, duration, traffic source (source, medium, referrer_url, utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term), visitor data (ip_hash, country, device_type, browser, os, screen_width, screen_height, language), widget engagement summary (engaged bool, widget_session_seconds)
- `GET /analytics/traffic-sources` — session breakdown by source and medium with counts and percentages
- `GET /analytics/pages` — per-page ranking with pageviews, unique_visitors, avg_time_on_page_seconds, widget_open_rate_pct, top_sources
- `GET /analytics/widget-events` — raw event stream with id, event_type, visitor_id, session_id, page_url, duration_seconds (widget_close only), created_at
- `GET /analytics/geography` — sessions grouped by country ISO code with counts and percentages
- `GET /analytics/devices` — breakdown by device_type, browser, and OS

All responses are JSON with `data` + `meta` envelope. Dates are ISO 8601 UTC. Pagination via `limit` / `offset`.

## Embed installation

The `data-assistant-id` is shown in the Phona dashboard under the Install tab for each assistant. The script is ~4 KB, loads asynchronously, and never blocks page rendering. Analytics tracking is active by default as soon as the script is present on the page. No additional configuration is needed.
